Why two Reds in a room is not teamwork but rather a cage match

April 22nd, 2026

The art of backing off before you explode.

Picture this:
Two high-powered, fast-talking, results-driven individuals enter a meeting. They shake hands firmly. They smile tightly. Each one thinks: “Finally — someone who gets it.”

Fifteen minutes later, they’re locked in a dead stare, jaws clenched, voices dangerously calm.

One says: “I’m not here to waste time.”

The other replies: “Good. Then stop doing it.”

Boom. Gloves off.

This isn’t a debate anymore. This is two mountain goats butting heads on a cliff edge. And both are convinced they are the reasonable one.

Because here’s the thing: Red energy thrives on challenges and competition. A single Red in a room can energize a team. But two Reds can set fire to it.

They interrupt.
They one-up.
They bulldoze.
They escalate.
And worst of all, they can secretly respect each other … while still plotting how to win.

Quick tip

If you’re Red and meet another Red: Don’t play chess with a mirror.

Instead: Divide the battlefield. Give the other person one arena to dominate and take another.
Say: “You take strategy, I’ll handle execution.”

Mutual respect only works when paired with clear boundaries.

Otherwise, it’s war disguised as efficiency. And from then on … there will be only losers.

A colourful moment

Two executive clients of mine – both Red – were in a planning session. After 40 minutes of heated, ehm, “collaboration,” one of them stood up red-faced, shook his fists and barked: “THIS WON’T WORK UNLESS ONE OF US DIES!”

There was silence. Then laughter. Then … a breakthrough.

They agreed to take shifts leading. One got Mondays and Wednesdays, the other Tuesdays and Thursdays.

They even joked about it with their teams. Because no one took it personally. And productivity soared.

Sometimes, the best strategy isn’t to fight harder. It’s to take turns.

See you next Wednesday.
